You can change factions, but it costs you. The system is designed so that switching is a meaningful narrative choice — not a way to chase whichever faction is winning.
The 30-day rule
After joining a faction, you cannot switch for 30 days. The cooldown resets every time you switch.
What you lose
When you switch, the following things are forfeited:
- Faction-specific cosmetics — banners, frames, and emblems tied to your old faction.
- Faction rank — you start over at the lowest rank in your new faction.
- Season pass progress — if the current season pass is faction-locked, you lose its rewards.
- Coven membership — you must leave any coven aligned with your old faction.
What you keep
- Your codex (all discovered secrets).
- Your AP balance and Chronicle+ subscription.
- Your username, friends, and theory history.
- Your achievements.
How to switch
- Open Settings → Faction.
- Tap Change faction.
- Read the consequence summary.
- Hold the confirmation button for 5 seconds — this is intentional friction.
- Pick your new faction.
Why the friction?
The Chronicle is a story about belief and consequence. We want faction choice to feel weighty, not disposable. If switching were free, the meta would devolve into bandwagon hopping and no one's votes would mean anything.
